The Penn State University Department of History and the Jewish Studies Program invite applications for an open rank, tenure-track position in the history of the modern Middle East (19th century to present), with special attention to the State of Israel. The appointment will be held jointly in the Department of History and the Jewish Studies Program, and will begin in August, 2013. The successful applicant should be able to enhance the interdisciplinary strengths of both units, demonstrate an active research agenda, and be able to contribute immediately to both graduate and undergraduate teaching in the department. Ability to teach lower-level courses is essential. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand by the date of appointment. Send a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that describes current and future research, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and letters of reference from three referees (under separate cover). Applications may also include up to three offprints or unpublished papers or chapters.
