Gail Hershatter is Distinguished Professor of History and Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz.  She is the author of, among other books, "The Gender of Memory:Rural Women and China's Collective Past" (2011) and "Dangerous Pleasures:Prostitution and Modernity in Twentieth-Century Shanghai" (1997), both of which were awarded the American Historical Association's Joan Kelly Memorial Prize in Women's History.  Professor Hershatter was the President of the Association for Asian Studies in 2011-2012.

This event is sponsored by the Asian Studies Department, and co-sponsored by the History Department, the Women's Studies Department, the Center for Global Studies, and the Penn State Libraries.
