I am a PhD student interested in Latin American history, the early modern period, colonization, and the interaction between European and indigenous peoples. My research focuses on ideas of rulership among the Mexica of central Mexico, the Maya of Yucatán, and the Miskitu of Nicaragua and Honduras. I am interested in how European contact impacted native rulership systems and how indigenous elites attempted to maintain ancient privileges or gain new rights in the colonial period.
