I am a third year graduate student pursuing a doctoral degree in History and African American Studies under the direction of Drs. Ellen Stroud and Courtney Morris. My broad research interests are 19th and 20th century United States history. More pointedly, I am interested in examining African American communities' efforts to establish and secure education and freedom during the rise of the abolition movement. I question how free and fugitive African Americans in the West used education to complicate and address the fraught notion of freedom.

Research Interests:

19th Century U.S. History and Black Education
