Biography:

I am a dual PhD student in History and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. My current research interests are deeply reflective of my experiences growing up in the Southwest borderlands. My interests broadly revolve around 20th-century Latin-American history and the use of state-instigated violence, including state enforced disappearances, genocide, and dictatorships. Moreover, my research is concerned with gendered violence against women and the relationship of such violence and the maintenance of power relations by a patriarchal state. My interest in state-instigated violence against female bodies has led to a developing concern in femicides along border regions, including United States and Mexico international border and Central America, with special interest in Guatemala. I am also interested in collective memory and post-memory—how cultural groups that have undergone violence tell their stories with the use of oral history and social movements.
